Welcome home.

The Ngurra House Of Photography comes from a slight variation of the word given to us for the name of our project. NGURRA, meaning Home, and Country, inspired the concept for a place to house the ngarra art archive. Envisioned and designed by our founder Andrew D Flanagan and set to open in 2025, is a project aimed at showcasing the extraordinary diversity of the Ngarra project and the communities it serves. It serves as a cultural hub, housing the Ngarra art archive and providing a platform for the continuous display of photographic works.

Ngurra is an invitation for visitors to immerse themselves in the stories, cultures, landscape, & lives captured as part of the Ngarra project.

At Maison de la Photographie, visitors can expect to explore not only photographs but also documentaries, music, and books that are part of the Ngarra art archive. The space is designed to host a variety of events, from thematic exhibitions to workshops, offering a deep dive into the rich braid of indigenous and remote communities. The inclusion of a coffee shop and wine bar with a terrace provides a relaxing environment for visitors to engage with the art and reflect on their experience.

The concept is for more than just a gallery; it’s a platform for cultural exchange and understanding. By showcasing the work of Ngarra and providing a space for dialogue and education, Maison de la Photographie fosters a deeper connection between visitors and the communities they represent. It serves as a testament to the power of photography as a tool for storytelling and a means of preserving cultural heritage.

it is together, as one, that we can make a difference.

Interactive workshops provide hands-on experiences, allowing visitors to learn traditional techniques or participate in storytelling sessions led by community members.

One of the key features of Maison de la Photographie is its commitment to community engagement. The space serves as a platform for local artists and artisans to showcase their work, fostering a sense of pride and empowerment within these communities.

The coffee shop and wine bar are more than just amenities; they are extensions of the exhibition space, offering locally sourced products and providing a taste of the cultures represented in the photographs. The terrace provides a scenic spot for visitors to relax, reflect, and engage in conversations inspired by the artworks.

Additionally, proceeds from the café and bar contribute to supporting local initiatives and sustainable development projects in the communities featured in the photographs.

Overall, Ngurra House Of Photography is a celebration of diversity, a bridge between cultures, and a testament to the transformative power of art and storytelling. It invites visitors to embark on a journey of discovery, empathy, and appreciation for the beauty and resilience of indigenous cultures.
