Our journey at Ngarra has always been about exploring the beauty of different cultures, landscapes, and histories through the lens of storytelling. On one of these journeys, we found ourselves on the ancient sands of the Giza Plateau, home to the iconic Pyramids of Egypt. This time, the story we were meant to capture wasn’t our own, but that of two young boys whose curiosity and creativity led to an unexpected collaboration that would change the course of our day—and perhaps their futures.
It was a scorching morning as my girlfriend and I wandered through the mesmerizing expanse of the Giza Plateau. The Pyramids loomed in the background, a testament to the grandeur and mystery of ancient civilizations. While we had come to document this historical wonder, the true treasure of the day came in a much smaller, yet profound, encounter.
As we strolled through the grounds, we noticed a group of schoolchildren on a field trip, their eyes wide with wonder as they took in the sheer scale of the Pyramids. Among them were two boys, around 9 or 10 years old, who seemed more intrigued by the camera slung over my shoulder than by the Pyramids themselves. Their eyes followed my every movement, and it was clear they were fascinated by the idea of capturing the world around them.
Recognizing that spark of curiosity, I knelt down to their level, smiling, and offered them my camera. My girlfriend followed suit, handing her camera to the other boy. They hesitated at first, unsure of how to handle such a tool, but with a little guidance, they quickly got the hang of it.
What happened next was nothing short of magical. We spent the next few hours showing them how to frame shots, adjust focus, and play with angles. They giggled with excitement as they clicked away, capturing the world through their young eyes—an entirely different perspective than what we could have ever imagined. They weren’t just taking pictures of the Pyramids; they were capturing their classmates’ laughter, the play of light on the ancient stones, and the emotions of the day.
These boys, who had likely never held a camera before, produced images that were raw, genuine, and filled with the wonder of discovery. Their photos reflected not just the ancient history surrounding them, but also the vibrant life that continues to thrive in the shadow of the past.
The photographs taken by these two young boys are more than just images—they are windows into their world, a blend of ancient history and youthful curiosity. To honor their work and the joy it brought to all of us, we’ve decided to use these photos as a way to give back to the community that inspired them.
The proceeds from the sale of these unique, heartfelt photographs will go directly to a school fund in Cairo, supporting the education of underprivileged children who might one day grow up to share their own stories with the world. This fund will provide the necessary resources for these children to continue their education, pursue their dreams, and perhaps, one day, pick up a camera themselves to capture the stories that matter to them.
This project is a testament to the power of creativity and the importance of education. It’s about more than just photographs—it’s about giving these children the tools to see their world in new ways, to tell their own stories, and to create a future filled with endless possibilities.
When you purchase a print from Ngarra, you’re doing more than acquiring a beautiful piece of art—you’re making a direct impact on communities around the world.
