“Acknowledging Country” — a map intricately crafted to acknowledge and pay respects to native territories. It’s a cartographic celebration of the custodianship of the land, narrated not through colonial borders but by the songs of the Earth. Picture a digital canvas adorned with vibrant hues, each stroke representing a sacred connection, a story untold. As you navigate this living map, encounter the profound wisdom of elders. In mesmerizing videos, they speak the truth of the land in their native tongues, breathing life into the contours of their ancestral domains. “Acknowledging Country” transcends geographical delineations; it’s an odyssey guided by the whispers of the wind, the rustle of leaves, and the timeless echoes of indigenous voices reclaiming their narratives.
The VA Network acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, connect, and love. We pay our respects to the Elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations Peoples. We recognize their enduring connection to the land, sea, and sky.
We acknowledge the significance of the ancestral lands and waters, and the rich cultural heritage embedded within them. We honor the Traditional Custodians’ deep knowledge and custodial responsibilities, passed down through generations, which have nurtured and sustained these lands for millennia.
We also acknowledge the diverse Indigenous cultures and languages that thrive across the globe. We respect the wisdom, stories, and artistic practices that are deeply rooted in the relationship between people and place.
As we gather here on the VA Network, we celebrate the richness of Indigenous knowledges and the unique artistic expressions that emerge from these diverse cultures. We strive to create a platform that respects, uplifts, and promotes the voices and perspectives of Indigenous communities.
In this spirit of recognition and collaboration, we encourage all users of the VA Network to join us in honoring and respecting the Traditional Custodians of the lands, seas, and skies. Let us come together in unity, learning from and sharing with one another to create a more just and sustainable future for all.
