standing on sacred ground

Ngarra acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, connect, and love. We pay our respects to the Elders, past and present, and extend that respect to all First Nations Peoples from all native lands on which we stand. We recognize their enduring connection to the land, sea, and sky, the stories and the lore that hold us, and guide us.

We acknowledge the significance of the ancestral lands and waters, and the rich cultural heritage embedded within them. We honor the Traditional Custodians’ deep knowledge and custodial responsibilities, passed down through generations, which have nurtured and sustained these lands for millennia.

We acknowledge the diverse Indigenous cultures, languages and arts and traditions that thrive across the globe. We respect the wisdom, stories, and practices that are deeply rooted in the relationship between people and place.

As we gather here around this fire, we celebrate the richness of Indigenous knowledges and the unique artistic expressions that emerge from these diverse cultures. We strive to create a space that respects, uplifts, and promotes the voices and perspectives of Indigenous communities.

In this spirit of recognition and collaboration, we encourage all to join us in honoring and respecting the Traditional Custodians of the lands, seas, and skies. Let us come together in unity, learning from and sharing with one another to create a more just and sustainable future for all.

we honor the caretakers of these lands, seas and skies, whose footprints are etched into the earth beneath us, in the currents that carry us, and whose spirits guide us.

always was. always will be.

Embrace a deeper understanding of place, culture, and connection—guided by the whispers of time.

Acknowledging Country isn’t about borders on a map – it’s about finding our way into relation with the land, its people, and its stories. Through this part of our project, we invite local custodians to record short introductions – Welcomes to Country – that greet you as if you’ve just stepped onto their land in person. Even if you’re only passing through digitally, taking a moment to hear these voices is the first step in walking respectfully upon native land.

In collaboration with the VA network, we gather these sacred offerings from Elders who have known their homelands since time beyond measuring. Their words are like open doorways, guiding you to see the place through their eyes, to feel the contours and spirit of the earth beneath your feet – if only in heart and mind. It’s a simple act, but one that connects us across distances, reminding us that every corner of Country holds a story worth listening to, a wisdom that has always been shared person to person, generation to generation.

This is more than an online map; it’s a living conversation – a chance to pause and remember that our first step onto any land should be guided by respect, by listening to those who carry its memory, and by recognizing the unbroken bond between place and people. By tuning in, if only for a moment, we help carry these stories forward, honoring the past and opening a path for all who come next.

contribute to the story

If you carry the stories of your land and wish to share a welcome for those who might visit – even if only in spirit – then we invite you to reach out. We’d love to collaborate with you in bringing the voice of your Country to this digital space, ensuring that anyone who steps onto your land, however briefly, does so with respect and understanding.

This project isn’t just about geographies; it’s about forming relationships. When you record a Welcome to Country, you’re inviting others to see through your eyes, feel the essence of your place, and honor the stories that have shaped it for generations. If you’re ready to participate or simply curious about how it all works, please connect with us. Let’s coordinate so that your land’s spirit and wisdom can continue to guide those who walk, or click, through it.

your support, your curiosity, your voice contributes to the larger story we are creating together. so, reach out, & let’s write this story, together as one.
